オーピーバイオファクトリーとロート製薬、資本業務提携契約を締結
― 微細藻類を活用した新規素材・製品の社会実装を加速 ―
オーピーバイオファクトリー株式会社（本社：沖縄県うるま市字州崎5番8、代表取締役：金本昭彦、以下「OPBio」）は、この度ロート製薬株式会社（本社：大阪府大阪市、代表取締役社長：瀬木英俊、以下「ロート製薬」）と資本業務提携契約を締結いたしましたのでお知らせいたします。
本提携により、OPBioが有する沖縄を拠点とした海洋微細藻類を中心とした生物資源の探索・培養技術と、ロート製薬が長年培ってきた製薬・ヘルスケア分野での研究開発力・マーケティング力を融合させ、化粧品・医薬品原料・機能性食品など幅広い領域での新規素材開発および社会実装を推進してまいります。
提携の背景と目的
OPBioは、2006年の創業以来、沖縄の豊かな海洋資源を活用し、未利用生物資源の探索から成分分析、スケールアップ培養、製品化に至るまで一貫して取り組んでまいりました。特に、微細藻類「パブロバ」に代表される機能性成分（フコキサンチン、EPA等）の実用化に強みを有しています。
一方、ロート製薬は「心身の健康を支え、人と社会をWell-beingへ導く」という理念のもと、医薬品・スキンケア・食品事業を通じて、豊かで幸せな生活の実現に貢献し続けています。近年は「Well-being」をテーマに、再生医療や食領域における新たな価値創造にも積極的に取り組んでいます。
両社はこれまで研究開発において協力を進めてまいりましたが、本資本業務提携を機に協力関係をさらに強化し、研究開発から事業化までをスピードアップさせることで、社会課題の解決と持続可能な成長の実現を目指します。
藻類農園FARMOとの連携について
本提携の一環として、OPBioとロート製薬は、沖縄県久米島町にて展開されている「藻類農園FARMO」とも連携を進めてまいります。
藻類農園FARMOは、再生可能エネルギーや海洋深層水など地域資源を活かした循環型モデルを推進しており、OPBioの培養技術やロート製薬の製品開発力と組み合わせることで、地域発の産業創出・雇用拡大・地方創生につなげていくことを目指しています。
特に、微細藻類を活用した新素材・新製品の開発を久米島からグローバルに展開することで、「海洋資源の持続的活用モデル」の実証を進め、国内外への発信拠点としての役割を強化します。

OP Bio Factory and Rohto Pharmaceutical Enter into Capital and Business Alliance
— Accelerating the Social Implementation of Novel Materials and Products Derived from Microalgae —
OP Bio Factory Co., Ltd. (Head office: 5-8 Suzaki, Uruma City, Okinawa; President: Akihiko Kanamoto; hereinafter “OPBio”) is pleased to announce that it has entered into a capital and business alliance agreement with Rohto Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Head office: Osaka City, Osaka; President: Hidetoshi Segi; hereinafter “Rohto Pharmaceutical”).
Through this partnership, OPBio’s expertise in the exploration and cultivation of marine microalgae and other biological resources in Okinawa will be combined with Rohto Pharmaceutical’s long-standing strengths in R&D and marketing in the pharmaceutical and healthcare fields. Together, the two companies will promote the development and social implementation of novel materials in a wide range of areas, including cosmetics, pharmaceutical ingredients, and functional foods.
Background and Purpose of the Partnership
Since its founding in 2006, OPBio has been engaged in a fully integrated process — from the exploration of Okinawa’s rich marine biological resources to component analysis, scale-up cultivation, and commercialization. The company has particular strengths in the practical application of functional compounds (such as fucoxanthin and EPA) derived from microalgae, most notably Pavlova.
Rohto Pharmaceutical, under the philosophy of “supporting mental and physical health and guiding people and society toward Well-being,” has long contributed to the realization of rich and fulfilling lives through its pharmaceuticals, skincare, and food businesses. In recent years, the company has also actively pursued new value creation in fields such as regenerative medicine and food under the theme of “Well-being.”
While the two companies have already collaborated in research and development, this capital and business alliance will further strengthen their cooperative relationship. By accelerating the process from R&D to commercialization, they aim to address social issues and achieve sustainable growth.
Collaboration with Algal Farm “FARMO”
As part of this alliance, OPBio and Rohto Pharmaceutical will also collaborate with the “Algal Farm FARMO” project in Kumejima Town, Okinawa Prefecture.
Algal Farm FARMO promotes a circular model that leverages local resources such as renewable energy and deep ocean water. By combining OPBio’s cultivation technologies with Rohto Pharmaceutical’s product development capabilities, the partners aim to create new industries originating in the region, expand employment opportunities, and contribute to regional revitalization.
In particular, by developing novel materials and products derived from microalgae in Kumejima and expanding them globally, the partnership will advance the demonstration of a “sustainable utilization model for marine resources” and strengthen the island’s role as a hub for global dissemination.
